The smart renovation of this 19th-century home in San Francisco uses beautiful materials in such a thoughtful way. From the stacked-stone kitchen wall (which, on the other side, creates a gorgeous staircase backdrop) to the stone, wood, tile, and glass bath, it’s a stunning space.

Yesyesyes, I know I moan and groan about all the whitewhitewhite interiors out there, but there’s something about this space that elevates it from the standard Andromeda Strain cleanroom aesthetic. Maybe it’s the two fab mid-century chairs–very reminiscent of some my family had–or the simple folding chair in the background or maybe it’s the glass accents. Who knows; this one just resonates for me.
Here’s a completely sleek, modern kitchen inside a stone building. The juxtaposition is startling yet attractive.
